Description

Please note clinical placements are available on Tuesday afternoon only at our Melbourne city clinic and Wednesday afternoon only at our Box Hill clinics.

Course Overview

This half-day placement offers clinicians, who have completed the Implanon NXT education and simulation course, the opportunity for hands-on practice in the insertion and removal of the Implanon NXT contraceptive device, with support from experienced clinical staff.

Please note that this is not a competency-based certification course.The Implanon NXT Training Recommendations for Health Care Professionals in Australia, highly recommend that theory education is followed, within a reasonable timeframe, by performing insertion and removal of Implanon NXT in a patient. This will consolidate skills learnt. Sexual Health Victoria aim to support those without convenient access to supervision within their workplace.   

Course Content 

Your half day supervised clinical placement with a Sexual Health Victoria trainer, will include:

  • Supported insertion procedure practice
  • Supported removal procedure practice
  • Advice
  • Expert tips

Eligibility

  • AHPRA registration as a doctor, nurse or midwife.
  • Completion of the Implanon NXT education and simulation course at Sexual Health Victoria or proof of completion of a course structured at the same level as this course. Please note: if you have attended Implanon NXT education at an organisation other than Sexual Health Victoria, this education must include simulation training.

Outcomes

Participants who register and successfully demonstrate the development of safe clinical practice in Implanon NXT insertion and removal, will receive a certificate of completion for Implanon NXT clinical placement from Sexual Health Victoria. 

Please note that while this is not a formal clinical competency course, Sexual Health Victoria reserves the right to withhold the certificate, if any concerns about the safe practice of these skills arise during your placement.
